Luca Toni: "Hooligans must be stopped"
Bayern Munich star Luca Toni has expressed his disgust at the violence that is crippling Calcio, and has urged the powers that be to follow the English and German example.
The Azzurri goal-machine has hit the ground running since his summer arrival in Germany, a country which he applauds for their success in curtailing football violence, and subsequent handing back of football to the people.
“We must stop these hooligans who have society held hostage and to do so police, directors and football representatives need to unite,” said an impassioned Toni.
“When you see games at Bayern with 70,000 fans, the majority are families with children.
“People come to the stadium three hours before kick-off to eat and drink and never consider causing this kind of trouble,” added the lanky striker.
“If they managed to solve the problem in England and Germany, we can do it in Italy. Together we can find a way to retain football for the true lovers.”
Toni has swooped for nine goals in his first 12 games for Bayern Munich and is certainly itching to continue his scoring ways in Italy’s crunch match against Scotland on Saturday.
