Roma to add Drenthe to Baptista deal?
Sources in Italy suggest that Roma are hoping to include Royston Drenthe in the deal that will see Julio Baptista join from Real Madrid.
Yesterday evening a delegation of Roma directors, including Daniel Pradè, Cristina Mazzoleni and Bruno Conti travelled to Madrid with the objective of finally closing the deal for Baptista.
The transfer is expected to be completed this week, but sources in Italy are claiming that the Giallorossi may try to include Baptista’s Madrid team-mate Royston Drenthe as part of the deal.
The Dutchman, who can play at full-back or on the wing, only signed for the Spanish giants last year for €14m from Feyenoord. However, the Whoopi Goldberg look-alike has found first-team action hard to come by, and he was used sparingly last campaign.
Drenthe has been heavily tipped to move away from Madrid this summer, possibly on a loan deal, and has been heavily linked with Italian clubs, including Fiorentina and Juventus.
The 21-year-old is currently on Olympic duty with Holland in Beijing, and he has been quoted earlier today as saying that he is looking forward to the new season with Real Madrid.
It remains to be seen what plans the Spanish champions have in store for him, but a loan move to Roma, with an option to make the transfer permanent, is certainly not an impossible scenario.
