Spurs boss Ramos makes contact with Andrei Arshavin
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos refuses to give up signing Zenit St Petersburg midfielder Andrei Arshavin.
Ramos has intervened personally to persuade Arshavin that a move to Tottenham would see the Zenit St Petersburg star become a key member of his starting line-up.
Despite reports last night that Spurs were distancing themselves from the deal because Zenit were holding out for £20million - some ?4m above Tottenham's valuation - Ramos is desperate to reinvest the money from the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool and Dimitar Berbatov's expected departure to Manchester United.
"Ramos called Andrei and explained his vision of football and the future of Andrei in his team," said agent Dennis Lachter. "He told him he would be a key player and that he is very interested in signing him."
According to the agent, Ramos is so determined to land Arshavin that he has persuaded Spurs to smash their £60,000-a-week wage ceiling to help convince him that his future lies at White Hart Lane.
With Arshavin eager to earn in the region of £80,000-a-week, Lachter claimed Spurs "are the only team that have accepted his wage conditions".
Lachter is confident Ramos will finally get his man, adding: "Spurs are ready to pay nearly all the money Zenit are asking for."
