Francesco Totti nearing return
Francesco Totti’s ankle is getting better by the day and he is hoping to be fit in time for Roma’s match against Genoa on the weekend following the international break.
Roma’s inspirational captain has been crocked with an ankle injury ever since the 2-1 Champions League win over Sporting Lisbon on October 23. He subsequently missed the return leg, as well as the Serie A matches against Milan, Lazio and Empoli and the Giallorossi are desperate to have him back in their ranks for the crucial remaining fixtures of the Champions League group stage as well as their bid to overhaul league-leading Inter.
Despite his continued improvement, it remains to be seen whether Totti will make it back in time for the trip to Genoa on November 24, as he is only scheduled to resume running on Friday.
Added to that, there are heavy doubts over whether the round 15 fixtures will go through as scheduled in any case, as the Lega Calcio are still debating whether to put a lengthy halt to Serie A play due to the deeply regrettable incidents from last weekend.
Totti was in attendance to pay his respects at the funeral of slain Lazio fan Gabriele Sandri on Wednesday morning, accompanied by Roma coach Luciano Spalletti and directors Bruno Conti and Antonio Tempestilli.
