Burnley Superkid John Cofie joins Manchester United
Burnley have announced the transfer of Ghanaian prodigy John Cofie to Manchester United...
Ghanaian youngster John Cofie has joined up with Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United after completing a move from near-neighbours Burnley.
The Championship outfit were essentially forced to sell up after the 15 year old declared that he wished to move on and, with Manchester United interested, club and player alike have opted for the Red Devils.
Clarets director Brendan Flood remarked, "The player was unwilling to come back to Burnley so we didn't have a choice in keeping him here.
"He was going to go to one of the clubs chasing his signature and in the end, we all felt that Manchester United was the right option.
"He has a good future ahead of him and hopefully we can try and keep youngsters of John's quality at the club in future."
While losing a player of such stature is a massive blow to the Turf Moor outfit, their losses may be stemmed somewhat by the rumoured 25% sell-on clause that accompanied the player's transfer.
What's more, the deal also includes first refusal on any future loan move from Old Trafford, as well as a guaranteed, lucrative friendly with the northern giants.
Cofie arrived at Burnley last summer after impressing scouts at a youth tournament in Germany, with the Clarets turning down an approach from Liverpool thought to be in the region of 350,000 euros shortly afterwards.
